Back to School Allergy-friendly Favorites

September is here and for many  of us that means it’s time to go back to school! New classrooms may mean new friends with food allergies so we put together a list of some of our favorite allergy-friendly snacks and treats that are safe for school and for sharing!

Bobo’s Apple Pie Stuff’d Oat Bites: Allison’s family has been loving these oat bites, specifically the Apple Pie flavor. They are certified gluten-free and free from dairy and soy. They offer a variety of allergy-friendly flavors in addition to Apple Pie, including Strawberry, Chocolate Chip and Lemon Poppyseed.  They also have allergy-friendly seasonal favorites like Pumpkin Spice and Gingerbread.  Make sure you DON’T reach for the Peanut Butter and Jelly or Chocolate Almond Brownie flavors though- they do have tree nuts and peanuts.

Skinny Pop: At O’MY we LOVE Skinny Pop! Sometimes a salty snack is in order and these deliver every time. Their Original, Twist of Lime and Sea Salt & Pepper flavors are certified gluten-free and free from dairy, peanuts and tree nuts. They also come in snack sized bags perfect for lunchboxes and a variety of large bags perfect for sharing!

Nature’s Bakery  Fig Bars: Nature’s Bakery may be a familiar brand to you, but they also make three flavors of their fig bars that are gluten-free. Blueberry, Pomegranate and Raspberry are all certified gluten-free and free from dairy, eggs and nuts.

Better Bites: Better Bites offers a variety of allergy-friendly sweet treats that even your friends without allergies will enjoy! From Dō Bites to cake bites and even cupcakes they are all certified gluten free and free from dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, fish, shellfish and sesame. Heather’s favorite flavors are Birthday Dō Bites and Chocolate Chip Dō Bites.

Partake Cookies: Partake cookies are certified gluten-free and are free from egg, dairy, soy, tree nuts, sesame and peanuts. They don’t contain any artificial flavors or preservatives and come in a variety of delicious flavors including the celebratory Birthday Cake or seasonal Pumpkin Spice, there’s something for everyone! Visit their site to see their full list of products and where you can find them.

Free2B Foods: Think allergy-friendly Reese’s. Another one of Heather’s favorites, they make sunflower butter cups and mint chocolate cups. All of which are free from the top 9 allergens and made in a dedicated facility. They have a variety of package sizes, including individually wrapped single cups which are a great choice to have for trick or treater’s with food allergies.

YumEarth: YumEarth has a wide assortment of allergy-friendly candies ranging from gummies to lollipops, licorice and better for you options that are similar to beloved favorites like Starbursts (Chewys, fruit chews) and Skittles (giggles). All of their yummy treats are certified organic and  free from artificial dyes, egg, shellfish, fish, gluten, tree nut, peanut, dairy, soy and sesame. They even come in individually wrapped packets perfect for the classroom!

It can be challenging navigating the grocery aisle and figuring out what’s a safe treat, what actually tastes good and what isn’t over-processed and filled with terrible ingredients. We hope this list helps to make it a little easier for you as the school year starts, and that you and your family will feel good about sharing these snacks and treats with old friends and new!
